Fascinating material not done justice
I gave this three stars only because the same stuff does not appear to be covered anywhere else. The author has an outstandingly boring writing style, is excessively repetitive and not particularly anchored in the real world - I was very surprised to learn that this guy had actually worked in government himself.

I seriously struggled with this despite the fact that I am familiar with the area already. I would hesitate to recommend it to a student because you cannot learn from something too dull to remember. The text is full of worldly statements about best practice etc with insufficient real world examples explaining why certain principles are important. He also naively repeats statements about the importance of alleviating world hunger and preventing starvation etc that have (sadly) practically no relevance to LHPs in the developed world. The coverage of the use of science in policy making is also poor and the author appears not to understand molecular technologies particularly well.

I'm afraid to say that I was very disappointed by this book.
