A classic book5
This is a classic book that still maintains its place in the nursing curriculum. Its first US edition in 1988 was the first book on pain management aimed at nurses that placed pain management within a multidisciplinary setting and explored practical skills and ideas. It also recognised that patients often experienced poor pain management and pioneered the use of pain assessment. As such it was radical and highly influential and had a big impact on the development of pain services. This second edition updates some of the material from the first but is largely unaltered in content. Pain management has moved on since 1988 and this book is now fairly dated in places.
