Grace Awakening helped me understand Christ's life in me.
Until the moment I invited Christ into my life, I didn't want to be a Christian. Since then (May 1998) I've eagerly sought to know more of Him. This book has opened up the Scriptures to me in a very special way. It has helped me to understand more of God's forgiveness and how to apply His forgiveness through me to other people - to live His Grace, not just to believe in it.
Many of the Scriptures have depths to them that are not apparent to the spiritually immature. Other Scriptures have historical backgrounds, and cultural meanings which the un-studied Bible student may not understand. Charles Swindoll does an excellent job of explaining these, relating them to present-day situations, and most importantly of all, to real people. He draws deeply on his own experiences, lessons and friends in order to present God's love for our failings, and how we can have that same love for others.
Life Changing
This book changed my life and sent me back to my Bible to see for myself just what it means to be really free! Free from the penalty of sin; free from the power of sin, free from the fear of failing and free from the fear of dying. To know the presence of Christ 'in you' is the most liberating experience in the world and He sets you free to love, laugh and enjoy life to the full - in Him. The Christian life is not just difficult - it is impossible and can only be lived by Christ Himself. This book set my wife and myself free from the legalism and condemnation that exists in many churches today and has enabled us to grow daily knowing that we can trust Jesus to keep on changing us to become more like him, day by glorious day.
Interesting Book
I was told by other Christians that this is a "must read." I bought the book, but then struggled to finish it. I did agree with everyting written in the book about grace, but it wasn't something that I was dealing with personally. I am not a legalist, bound up by rules and regulations, struggling to live freely for Jesus. So I think it depends on where you're coming from when you pick up this book...
