Product Description

"Running a Stables as a Business" concentrates on the business of keeping and using horses as a business, either the proprietor's own horses for teaching, trekking or showing, or clients' horses for showing or livery. It covers working pupils and unpaid 'helpers', organizing lessons and keeping the neighbours sweet, and the basics of building indoor and outdoor maneges. Common pitfalls are explained, ways of cutting losses and increasing profits are suggested and practical examples of how cash books should be kept and how cash flow can be forecast are given. All the information for running a horse business as a profitable concern rather than a loss-making hobby is here. This book is the bible for all stable proprietors or prospective proprietors.

About the Author
Known principally in the horse world as a side-saddle expert, Janet Macdonald has travelled extensively throughout the UK, Europe and North America teaching this specialized form of riding and has visited many stable yards over the years. These she has observed, not only through the eyes of a horsewoman, but also through the eyes of an efficient businesswoman with professional expertise in the fields of accountancy and business management. In her books on business management she applies her managerial and financial skills to the problems of running businesses focused on horses and how they can operate as sound commercial ventures. Janet Macdonald's numerous books include the companion volume to this title, Running a Tack Shop and Riding Side-Saddle.

Invaluable5
I have ridden, worked with and owned horses for years, I even have a qualification in Equine Studies which includes Related Business Studies. yet none of that training has been as valuable to me tarting my own Livery yard as this book!! It covers a wide variety of topics in a no-nonsense manner, no rose-tinted specs here!! it informs you about things auch as how to set up your yard, managing accounts, employing staff and legal requirements.

Definitely worth a read, even if its nothing more than a check-list before you start planning!
