The destroyer Campbeltown is most famous for her part in the commando raid on the St Nazaire drydock in 1942. Built as the USS Buchanan (DD131)- and later renamed Campbelton - she was one of over 270 flush-decked destroyers put into service towards the end of World War I. When Britain appealed to America in 1940 for the transfer of fifty vessels for anti-submarine duty, Buchanan was one of the first 'gift horses' to be transferred. About the Author
Al Ross II, an American-born educator and ship illustrator, is the author of several books, including the previous 'Anatomy of the Ship" volumes on The Destroyer Escort England and The Destroyer The Sullivans. He is currently working with John Lambert on a joint effort entitled Allied Coastal Forces. His ship drawings have appeared in a number of books and journals, including Norman Friedman's design history on US Navy Small Combatants and Nautical Quarterly.

A workhorse honored
This book is not as detailed as others of the series, lacking nice perspective views and cross sections.
However, it deals with a very interesting kind of ship and so it is worth the price. If a ship 97 m. LOA, 9.1 m. Beam, with 24000 SHP and 35 knots top speed, riveted-built in 1919 mainly with 6.1 mm. plate, and able to survive convoy escort duties in the North Atlantic in WWII draws your attention then you should have a look at this book.
Also, for those interested in literature Herman Wouk's USS Caine (The Caine Mutiny) was a DMS, that is one of these destroyers converted to minesweeper, so with the pictures and drawings of the book you can have a clear idea about the scenario of the novel. When the movie mas made the DMSs were no longer existing, so I think they used a destroyer-escort (totally different and much tidier).
