Amazon.co.uk Review
What is a successful perennial? The author defines it as: "One that is thriving, showing off its most attractive features in a way that compliments the rest of the garden".

The book is devoted to explaining this, showing how perennials can be used, how to care for them, what the propagation techniques are and also useful buying tips. More than 160 hardy perennials are covered alphabetically in this excellent reference book, each one accompanied by first-class colour photographs, and there is also a section on grasses. It is necessary to become familiar with how to use the book, using the symbols, colour coding, diagrams, icons, charts and features calendars. These are simple and straightforward and the forthcoming information can be used so that any gardener can make informed choices to create low-cost, low-maintenance, sensational displays of perennials in various seasons.

The information has been obtained by Gardening Which? over a number of years by carrying out trials on eight test sites throughout Britain. Each type of perennial has been tested in a wide variety of soils and climates and detailed records have been kept. All this research has given Gardening Which? the authority to say which are the best. Other books in the series include Gardening Which? Guide to Successful Pruning, Gardening Which? Guide to Successful Propagation, Gardening Which? Guide to Successful Shrubs, Gardening Which? Guide to Patio and Container Plants and Gardening Which Guide to Small Gardens. --Susan Naylor
