Product Description

Gears in one form or another are part of most mechanisms, but they are by no means as simple as they may appear. This book explains simply and comprehensively the underlying theory involved, and in its second part, how to cut gears on a lathe or milling machine.

Gears and gear cutting cuts through the mystery5
Having been toying for some months with the idea of trying to make a clock it was necessary to find out more about the gears and cogs. This little book is a pleasure to read. It is quite clearly written by a craftsman but in terms that a layman can easily understand. It is possible to pick it up and read it from cover to cover or use it as a very handy reference manual.
It describes different forms of gearing, worm gears, bevel gears and gives simply mathmatical formulae for calculating the necessary dimensions. All technical terms are well described and there are even sections on making multi toothed and fly gear cutters. It is packed with line drawings and black and white photos and at 135 pages should be a welcome addition to both the rank amatuer and more experienced workshop hand. Highly recommended.

Very informative5
Whilst I have not exactly read this from cover to cover yet, it seems a very informative and readable little book on the subject. There are hints and tips from the author's experience, as well as essential theory and practical advice. Well worth buying if you need to know how to cut gears!
