Editorial Reviews
Gay Times, May 1999 - Book of the Month
Simply and starkly written, this is a gripping, modern day morality tale
Gays The Word bookshop, London, 1999
Realistic and ultimately positive - recommended.
From the Author
I would just like to use this space to thank all of those who have bought my first novel 'Outcast'. I wrote the book when I was nineteen years old and it was a very cathartic experience. I am pleased that the book has been read by so many people and that you all seemed to enjoy it. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought the response would be so fantastic, both to the first novel, and its two sequels, 'Outside In' (2001) and the forthcoming 'Over and Out' (TBC). stuart_thorogood@hotmail.com

Best book I've read!
When I started reading this book I found that I could not put it down. The story of Mark Holly and the struggles he faced when he decided to 'come out' almost mirrored my own situation. I found the book very moving as the emotions, the denial over his own sexuality that Mark faced where feelings that so many people face.
This is an excellent book well written by the author Stuart Thorogood. My advice to anyone confused about who they are is to read this book. You really wont regret it!
Great book, great help
I started reading this book at 9pm Saturday evening - by 3pm Sunday I had finished it. Gripping, touching, enthralling tale - I cried at least twice as I read the book. Stuarts style of writing is so heartfelt and honest, I would defy any gay man to say this book did not touch them to the extent it touched me. I am currently going through the coming out experience in my life, and this book helped me a great deal - Stuart, thanks, and (sorry to be pushy) - when is the sequel coming??
Destined to become a classic
I must confess to getting a little bored by the endless stream of poorly written gay fiction concentrating on coming out stories and angst ridden guilt. Which is why I didn't pick this one up until gone midnight one evening and couldn't put it down until dawn crossed the bars. It is the story of Mark Holly who lives in a supportive working class family and has a girlfriend. He plays in a rock band and is in love with Grace. Until that is , he meets Andrew a gay barman at a local club. Love at first sight has to battle its way through Marks mixed emotions as he realizes that he too is indeed gay and begins to accept his sexuality. Nothing however could prepare Mark for the mayhem which ensues when his family find out. A poignant touching love story made real by its setting in working class life where to be queer is not necessarily to be cool. Very moving novel tipped to be a classic. Read it!
