They also serve.........
Bouncers and Shakers are plays with a similar approach. They are both illustrations of life from a working class perspective where 4 actors (all male in Bouncers, all female in Shakers) play a multitude of different male and female characters. These characters are the staff and customers of the disco/club(Bouncers)and cocktail bar(Shakers) where they work. A strong mix of comedy and pathos which very occasionally tips over into stereotyping. These plays are very accessible and immediate for British and Irish audiences, with many current musical / cultural references which need to be updated with each new production. A strong ensemble cast is needed if the maximum impact is to be extracted from these excellent scripts.
Five "BLOODY BRILLIANTS" on the "BLOODY BRILLIANT" Scale !!
This book is one of Godbers best plays. It gives a real comical insight to the night life of Bouncers and clubing in general. It also shows us what idiots we look like when we go out clubing, it's a great play to perform, a good play for all those independant drama groups to do. This book will have you're sides splitting ! Cheers Luke "Grimmy" Grimshaw
P.S. Go and see it on stage
Godber's masterpieces
Bouncers shows that doormen are not all stupid and that all people are needed in the world. Shakers is almost a female version of the same play. Both are very physical and stylised and 4 people can play all the carachters.
