What a comfort......
...to slip into another volume of James Lees-Milne's diaries, these being for his middle years, and although episodic, no less interesting. His self-knowledge and wry observations on the many people he knows and meets, bring to life a world which was remote from most people alive at the time, and even more so now; above all he is tremendously human, prejudices and fallibilities included.
