Product Description

The sensational autobiography of Meic Stevens, the legendary Welsh singer who was idolised by Bob Dylan, who had a record deal with Warner Brothers in the sixties and who dominated the Welsh language folk and pop scene for decades. The original Welsh version of the book had raving reviews - accepted as one of the most exciting autobiographies ever to come from Wales.

A True Welsh Legend5
Meic Stevens was and is both an icon and enfant terrible within the Welsh language rock scene. Numerous leading rock artists of the day willingly pay homage to his artistry and attitude as a seminal influence on their careers. Others will allude to his unpredictability and recklessness but without disputing his unquestionable genius in composing songs that will be sung as long as the Welsh language survives. His autobiography portrays a helter skelter genius living life in the fast lane of both Welsh and Anglo American camps. Meic follows his own furrow as he reveals much about the underbelly of life in Cardiff in the 60s and 70s. A riverting read.

AutoBiographies can be very hit or miss, unfortunately this one is a miss. He may be a good musician but he falls down as a writer. He knows what a comma is and he isn't afraid to use it, all the time! Every time he is describing something he lists its characteristics and this becomes tiring. At times I thought ok this is better but then it seems to revert back to the same style. His writing at times is infantile.
This isn't to say that the story is bad Meic Stevens is an interesting man there is no denying that, he has had things thrown at him that many couldn't even imagine but this doesn't really make the book a worth while read. It's a real struggle to sit down and read a chunk of it because it doesn't have much momentum and whole sections seem pointless. It may be a nice book for anyone who lives in the area because he talks about things that only they would understand and that could be a source of nostalgia.
His fans will probably enjoy it just because it is very personal but if you like me have never heard of the man or his music you may get bored after the first chapter.
