Soldier Of The Queen5
Being Female i didn't think this Book was for me but i bought and read it anyway, i'm glad i did.
The Author Bernard O'Mahoney gives us a revealing and painful account of his childhood that was to change his life to his time spent serving in Northern Ireland as a British Soldier, a brutal and often disturbing read often broke by o'mahoney's welcome humour, i just hated to put it down..an Excellent read not to be missed.

Down-to-earth squaddie's-eye view; shocking but true to life5
Like the reviewers of the hardback edition, I found this absolutely gripping, and was extremely impressed with the fact that for once it tells the story from the point of view of the ordinary soldier. Though, mind you, the author is not all that ordinary. In fact, he's a right piece of work, but he doesn't pretend to be any better than he is. No book could tell you more about the everyday reality of a soldier's life on Northern Ireland in the 80s. It's very pacy and full of extraordinary humour (pretty black, most of it). In a word, tremendous.

The first book I have read cover to cover in 20 years5
I found myself having more and more in common with the author, but you don't need to in order to be gripped by the the raw emotion of his life. What a change to read a millitary saga about a run of the mill squadie. No SAS glory and thunder, just hard reality. Prepared to find yourself laughing in amazement at the shear ordasity of his thought process. Written by men, about male emotions, but don't be fooled even hard men hurt inside. This book won't change your life, however it may change the way you lokk at it.
