Product Description

The At A Glance series sets out to summarise the essential information about a particular subject for the student requiring a quick introduction or a guide to revision. This is achieved by taking each part of the subject in turn and condensing it into a two–page spread with a schematic diagram on the left and a concise explanation on the right, which repeats some of what is shown in the drawings and adds further basic information.

This book presents a broad look at pharmacology with the aid of a series of thoughtfully constructed sketches to show the mechanisms involved in pharmacological processes. It covers basic principles of drug action; drug receptor interactions; drug absorption, distribution and excretion; drug metabolism; how drugs act on specific body systems; and how drugs are used in a variety of common complaints (including peptic ulcer, hypertension, diabetes and cancer).

This third edition features two new sections on poisons and drug interactions, and inserts new material on the role of immunotherapy, nitric oxide, and a discussion of ′second messengers.′

I would recommend this book for medical students, science students and scientists who require a succinct account of pharmacology.

Customer Reviews

Covers the basics4
This book is great because it has lots of illustrations, which aid with the learning process, so excellent for those last minute exams. This book is definately geared towards medical students, nurses and anyone in an allied health profession other than pharmacy. For students studying Pharmacy or Pharmacology this book is good enough for you to undersatnd the basics, but more in depth books would be required for you to gain the information needed to get those good answers in your degree. Great for understanding, but not comprehensive enough on it's own, for all students.

An essential companion to learning fundamental pharmacology.5
A very helpful material to have on top of lecture notes. Though lacking details at places, it is sufficient for those seeking basic, factual knowledge rather than research. The double-page spreads are very easy to interpret and information is condensed. This book will be useful for all studying this subject, especially for those 1st or 2nd year medics panicking about what appears to be a daunting subject.

The book that saved my life!5
When you have one semester to cover a pharmacology module, the lecturers throw out all these names of molecules involved in the autonomic nervous system...That's all fine, but when it comes to the exam, you REALLY need to know what's what...if you've forgotten all your Physiology principles, it doesn't help too much!
This book is PERFECT. Keeping everything neat and succinct, every topic is summarised with accurate, crisp schematic diagrams at the start of each chapter( which rarely extends beyond three pages anyhow ), covering the basics of most topics within this subject that you would need. It is THE ultimate revision crammer aid, thin and compact, so you can take it anywhere without weighing yourself down. Buy it now.....you won't regret it!
