As with all the books in the "At a Glance" series, the aim of the approach is to reduce frills to zero, to condense words to the absolute minimum and to make the illustrations the primary tool of communication. The text repeats some of what is in the drawings and adds further basic information. It is not intended to try to replace existing textbooks of biochemistry, but to provide students with a tool with which they can revise rapidly, economically and with confidence. A useful revision text.
As a revision text this book is excellent. Key words and concepts are highlighted together with a short description. It is certainly not a book to use where a full understanding of the subject has not already be acquired.
The diagrams are very boxy. This is appropriate since they resemble the simplified diagrams that will have to be reproduced in an exam. Unfortunately, the links from the text to the figures is poor. It can be confusing if the reader is not able to identify the appropriate diagram to accompany the text from their existing knowledge of the subject.
