A wonderful book!5
This book by Dr Ilia Delio OSF had me spellbound from the very first page. Sister Ilia has made Franciscan theology accessible to everyone, with this wonderful exploration of the humility of God through her expert knowledge of Bonaventure and Duns Scotus. Sister Ilia's writing is profound without being confusing and it is simple to understand without being simplistic. No matter what your theological background (if you have any at all!) everyone will benefit from reading this book. The Incarnation and the Trinity are discussed from the perspective of God humbly bending down low to reach us where we are. Many interesting topics are discussed. How do we view God, especially in this troubled world? How can we reconcile God with the theories of evolution and modern science? I was particularly interested in the study of 'the primacy of Christ' and the theory of Duns Scotus that God created the world so that his Son could be the perfect expression of his love. And that all of creation is a divine dance involving the Trinity and us. This of course calls for our participation. There is so much more to this book and I have probably not done it justice, but reading it has greatly helped me in various areas. I have found myself re-reading sections again and again to fully absorb the concepts and really follow them through.
And what about that beautiful front cover? The artwork by Darina Gladisova is stunning and deserves meditating upon. At first I thought Christ was visible in a wall. But fully contemplating the humility of God I now think it a pathway! Be sure to discover for yourself Sister Ilia's other books especially if you want to learn more about prayer and Bonaventure. I can't wait for Ilia Delio's next book!
