Average customer review:Product Description
Many other matters respecting the attributes of God and my own nature or mind remain for consideration; but I shall possibly on another occasion resume the investigation of these. Now (after first noting what must be done or avoided, in order to arrive at a knowledge of the truth) my principal task is to endeavour to emerge from the state of doubt into which I have these last days fallen, and to see whether nothing certain can be known regarding material things.

An excellent introduction for the lay philosopher
Undoubtably Descartes' most famous work. 'Meditations' provides a unique insight into the nature of the human mind and philosophical thought. Of equal use to the lay philosopher and student of philosophy, written well and easy to understand, and, most importantly, translated directly from the Latin original, not the French (which was itself translated from the Latin), so does its best to translate the direct meaning in the spirit in which the author intended it. From the man who coined the famous phrase 'cogito ergo sum' I give you 'Meditations'. A definite must for anyone and everyone with an analytic and open mind. Little work needed to understand Descartes' meaning and a pleasure to read. Highly recommended.
