terrible waste of time
This book... it says in the back 'also available in Spanish'. If it were written in spanish and translated, badly, that would explain/excuse a bit of what is wrong with this book. The trouble is it wouldnt explain half way enough. I very, very rarely have trouble finishing a book. The last time was with some awful tome I got set for English Lit A Level, and that was six years ago. This book is so annoyingly awful that I have trouble reading more than a couple of pages at a time. The author makes lots of errors that are simple and glaring- ie describing a pyramid as 'a triangle with four sides'. She also manages to totally distort each and every belief I have read about so far. I skimmed through looking at the pictures and reading bits here and there, and it doesnt seem to get better. She starts off with the idea that everything starts with egyptian magic, goes through hebrew magic, and is all based on the same principles. This is so very very far from the truth I couldnt swallow it. Magic is an exercise in wondrous variety. She starts a section on gods by saying 'there is only one god, and his name is Allah, yahweh', blah blah blah. Now I can name several hundred gods from memory, and I have enough familiarity with religion to know that there are vast differences between gods, belief systems and even concepts of good and evil. You simply cannot shoehorn them in to being all about the one man. it isnt possible. also vastly complex traditions such as neo pagans, wiccans etc get lumped together as if it were all one out of book doctrinaire religion with one king and queen of the witches. that just gives me a headache. talk to thirteen neo pagans about anything and you'll get thirteen different opinions. plus one of the few things there is a lot of agreement on is the whole non-hierarchical thing. no king and queen. everyone a priest/ess. If this book had been presented as a matter of the author's personal opinion, I could maybe have stomached it. It would be misguided claptrap, but there is a lot of that in the magical world. What really gets on my wick is the way she has the gall to present such badly researched, opinionated rubbish as a 'complete' collection of objective facts. Lastly, the spells it lists are all, as far as I can see, culled from other books which you can still buy. Far superior books at that, by authors people have actually heard of.
a really bad book, misrepresenting everything it touches. believe not one word of it.
An educating book.
I borrowed this book from a friend. I didn't enjoy it, it had alot of information just nothing i needed. If you are looking for mostly the history of witchcraft this is a great book for you to read.
IT DOES WORK!!!!!!!
At first I was a little skeptical because of the cover but once I got to reading it I really became interested and tried one of the spells, and it worked! REALLY WELL! I am planning to try all of the spells I can, but I am so happy I have finally found a book that acctually works! This is a must have book for anyone.
