Five star Fante
"Dreams From Bunker Hill", is the last in the Bandidi series of novels. On this occasion Antonio Bandini is seeking to build on his success after one of his short stories is published. We follow the young Bandini as he lands spiritually dead but well paid jobs in Hollywood. He falls in and out of love. Fante's descriptions of Terminal Island and the effect it has on the young Bandini are amazing. Because of the pace, the language, and the emotional bravery in this book it is hard to appreciate that John Fante wrote it when he was almost 70, blind and suffering from diabities. For any young writer encountering the ups and downs of the profession this is an essential must read.
