Synopsis
A screenplay tells the story of Henry Chinaski, a down and out writer who spends most of his time drinking.
From the Publisher
In The Movie: "Barfly," Bukowski crawls onto the silver screen like some rough beast slouching toward Hollywood to be born--in all its living color, blood and neon shot through a haze of flophouse cigarette smoke, beer glass amber and L.A. smog.
Customer Reviews
Tough, witty screenplay with a heart
Here are a few days in the life of Henry Chinaski, Bukowski's self-styled LA drunk. From bar to brawl to broad, and even to success, Chinaski punches out lines of humour, truth and wisdom, always keeping the upper hand with his words, if not his actions. Bogart would have been in his element with this between his teeth. Simple in plot but effective in content, of portraying a man locked in the crazy arms of life, there's enough to make you laugh and wince with each turn of the page. Another recommendation is 'Hollywood' which recounts Bukowski's experiences around the time he wrote this. Grab yourself a quarter whisky and enjoy.
