Product Description

Dogwoods, a diverse, widespread and enormously popular group of woody plants, represent some of the most appealing flowering trees available to gardeners. It is surprising that no book has been devoted to describe all of the varieties available. Paul Cappiello and Don Shadow fill that longstanding gap with this definitive reference. Aimed at both amateur gardeners and professional horticulturalists, this book covers all dogwoods currently available in nurseries. On top of the 200 colour photos that help with identification and plant selection, the authors offer helpful details on cultivation, combating pests and diseases, and the fundamentals of breeding and selection. Dogwoods is an unprecedented guide to the diversity of plants in the genus Cornus which are available in nurseries today. It will fill a key gap in knowledge about these popular plants.

Mostly good points but some bad..4
Good usefull book as i love most Cornus species and use them widely. Cornus kousas and floridas are very well documented with plenty of pictures and info on most cultivars. I plant many kousas and this book has helped me identify the slight variations of flowers and foliage helping with the purchasing and identification of Cornus kousas. Some good info on propagation.
Some better pictures of the bright stemmed cornus species of albas, stoloniferas, sanguineas would have been good as this group is widely used in garden design and more photos would have been usefull when choosing stem colours and combinations.
Worst till last.... No pictures of a Cornus alternifolia!! i feel this realy lets the book down. One or two shots of leaves and flowers are provided but not one photo showing its key feature - its delicate and gracious form in any season!!!Cornus alternifolia argentea is the most elegantly beautiful small tree that deserves at least one full page picture of complete plant showing full form. How saddened i was...
7 pages on canadensis and only 4 pages on alternifolia and 5 pages on contraversas? Worth buying if you are a florida or kousa fan like myself. If the authors are doing a revised version any time please contact me for some Cornus photos.
