Superior text which awakens age-old tradition!
This book is excellent. As others suggest that the dead may be found in similar condition, it ought be mentioned that these saints' bodies had no preservatives and in some cases, should have decomposed even more quickly based on where they were buried. The book is loaded with information and great pictures. This whole process of exhuming a body and placing it in a crystal coffin has been in place for years in Europe....only Americans would find this gross. Mrs. Cruz is commended for thorough research and the photographs. I use the book so often in my research that I have gone through several copies and recently had most last edition hard bounded. Highly recommend this and her many other books. It must be something in that New Orleans air!
Fascinating
This is the second time I've bought this book, my original copy having been mislaid.
Joan Carol Cruz has produced an extremely helpful discussion on this little-known subject, dispelling misunderstandings about this phenomenon along the way.
Hardened sceptics may not be convinced by the miraculous nature of this manifestation, but Mrs Cruz is sufficiently clear on her own belief in the Divine cause of these preservations as to enable the reader to form their own judgement.
The photographs of those saints whose remains are still preserved in their incorrupt state are fascinating and one could only ask that there were more available in the book.
Hopefully, one day a revised edition could be provided, and would benefit from providing more specific addresses of where the relics of these Saints and Beati are enshrined, and whether there are any specific requirements for visiting the churches where the these holy people repose.
I would recommend this work to anyone who wishes to gain a greater understanding of incorruption.
Good overview of the incorruptibles
This book gives a good precis of the lives of the incorruptibles. I was astonised at the sheer number of such saints. It has made me want to learn more about some of them and futhermore has filled me with a desire to see, where possible, their earthly remains. I would like to see this book updated to reflect current scientific understanding of decomposition. An introduction section on the normal process of decomposition would have been useful.
