A modern account of traditional marriage in Islam
Whilst taking nothing away from other authentic sources of knowledge in Islam. This book is a refreshing look at marriage within the modern context in which most muslims live.
It makes traditional sources easily accesible and is a very readable book.
To be guided in our modern day-to-day living using traditional authentic sources of Hadith and Quranic quotes is helpful. This book is a good counter to most other available books on marriage.
There are many practical examples of how The Prophet dealt with daily issues within marriage. If one keeps in mind The Prophets everyday behaviour within marriage and the treatment of his wives and then this book is in the right spirit.
Most examples given are not often widely quoted elsewhere, as they may seem to be giving too much to women. For instance- the prophet used to wash the dishes. One has to remember that Islam through The Prophet was the original giver of all rights and respect to men and women.
The book is highly recommended to both new and long term partners, looking for a balanced and equitable life here, leading to an equitable hereafter.
Muslim men: please read this!
An unusual book on this subject: written be a British convert to Islam, and also a woman! The author has a formidable history of writing excellent, educational books on Islam and this one is no exception.
Muslim men: please read this and learn how to be an equal partner in a truly Islamic marriage.
Muslim women: please read this and learn about your rights! Muslim women are not doormats.
People interested in Islam: be inspired!
An excellent, well discussed guide for couples
This book offers sound advice for any muslim couple, supplemented with quotes directly from the Quran and the Hadith literature. It covers subjects from foundational principles of a good marriage, to gender differences, to sexual issues, and the author discusses how both husbands and wives can apply the instructions to love and respect each other into their every day lives. Both my husband and I found many sections applicable to ourselves and particularly liked the frequent references to hadiths and suras. This book is easy to read, well organized and very applicable to couples living in both Islamic and Western societies. A well informed, relevant read - I highly recommend it.
