Since the earliest times people were aware that all Nature is divine and that every plant has its own distinct spiritual energy. This understanding has been preserved in folklore of cultures around the world through poems, chants, ditties and spells. From researching this lore, patterns emerge which enable us to approach the true nature of plants' energies. Great care has been taken to include only folklore that has been documented as authentic. The contents include: the magickal classification of herbs; aphrodisiacal, fertility, consecration, immortality, love, protection, purification, magickal, visionary and more; a guide to the usage of magickal herbs; over 200 entries covered in detail on subjects including altars, astral work, baby blessings, clairvoyance, drawing down the moon, Goddess worship, good fortune, handfasting, spirit guides, success, wish magic and Yule; deities and magickal herbalism; and herbal correspondences. It also includes astrological associations for all herbs by planet and sign.

The Compleat Compendium of Magical Herbs
The amount of information contained in A Compendium of Herbal Magick is absolutely mind boggling. Paul Beyerl has done a great service, not only for the herbalists but also for Wiccans, Pagans and anyone who is interested in the traditions of herbalism. This book deserves a place of honour beside Culpeper, Grieve and Lust. The section on the magickal classification of herbs gives a detailed explanation of each class and then lists a number of herbs in that class. I was interested to read about funereal herbs and gladdened to see that Beyerl includes not only those herbs associated with the actual funeral rites but also those which ease the processes of death and dying. Well over three hundred herbs are listed individually.
Each listing contains the herb's common name, Latin name, magickal uses, and which deities may be invoked, along with specific magickal and health giving usages and a detailed section on the traditions and lore surrounding the herb. Part III contains a guide to magickal usage and a large, detailed and well arranged section on the astrological correspondences of herbs. The entire book, all five hundred twenty-eight pages, is well written and presents the information in an manner that is both easy to read and easy to understand. As a Master Herbalist, I stand in awe of Beyerl's accomplishment.
A Compendium of Herbal Magick is a monumental work and it is with great pleasure that I place it beside my other references on the subject.
A very complete book
I found this book to be of great interest. It list a huge amount of herbs, it's magickal uses, healing power. It is truly very complete and easily undestood, even by the beginner. I'm sure I will keep on using it a lot whenever I want to find out more about a specific herb.
