dark but funny5
This book is unique in the way it has its own style of drawing (or anime if you can call it that). The dark sense of humour really is funny and some bits sick though they are, really make you burst out in laughter. You really could not get anything much more twisted thats actuallu funny... The fact that it is twisted just adds to the humour.
For additional information on Roman Dirge's drawings and comics (though this is a classic) visit www.spookyland.com (says it in the book).

Note: Don't read this book if your easily impressionable.

Think Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, except with more innocent violence. This gothic humour is about a little girl named lenore, who just so happens to be dead (and embalmed). With her friend Ragamuffin (a vampire who's become Lenore's stuffed toy), her pet cat she accidentally killed and Mr. Gosh (who loves her, but this is unrequited. Lenore runs over him repeatedly with a lawn mower), they have all kinds of zany mini adventures. Definatly recommended

Being dead rocks!5
Tim Burton-esk, powerful and nonsensical but thoroughly sprinkled with subtle humour coupled with an Andy Riley twist of ingenious animal death methodology. A must for the mentally tormented.
Dirge's beloved Lenore is indeed graphically cute, her logic is erratic and her obvious naivete is soul consuming. The more you read, the less tact and concern Lenore has for the living. Her friends and foes are easily comparable to characters from childhood nightmares and if you have had the pleasure of watching Nightmare Before Christmas you'll be just as enraptured.
The revelation of short stories about Roman Dirge interjected throughout aid in answering questions about the origin of such a cute little dead girl. In short,if words like death, harrowing, cold-blooded and insentient get your juices flowing then i think you'll agree with me that it's bloody marvellous!
