Synopsis
Following an introductory section on "How to use this book", this work is divided into two parts. The first contains illustrated instructions on breeding equipment and techniques and a breeder's diary, while the second gives detailed rearing instructions by species, or for closely related species. The book also contains a select bibliography of works on British and European Lepidoptera and a complete dual index to both insects and plants.

Customer Reviews

A great insight into a fascinating subject4
Firstly, there are few publications available on this subject. Written/collated in the 1950s it is an essential reference to someone who is considering getting into breeding butterflies and moths in captivity. whilst much of the knowledge to be gained from this book holds true it is far from complete given the shear size of the subject, so it is only to be expected that it is sketchy. Also given the latest techniques discovered in successfully taking species considered difficult through the complete life cycle in captivity, some of the text is a little out of date. All said and done worth the money.
