Can't go back, but read and enjoy
I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story of a man who bravely searched out the enemy from over Dunkirk, London, France, North Africa, and the Pacific. He does not feel guilty about his exploits with pirated petrol, stolen moments with women, and heroic dissipation with alcohol, but is truly wracked with guilt at leaving the leadership of his squadron in North Africa, after doing all he could. The only living survivor for over fifty years who flew in a one-seat Spitfire with another person (There was a party to go to!), this Indian-born hero tells truly what drove his heroics. Reading this book made me happy and sad, and I reflected on my own youth, and what happens to people who must go full-speed, every day and night. Thanks, Bolshie. Well done.
