Excellent Reference Book for the Aviation Historian
An excellent update to the original Book 1 of the Series. Be aware that the title may be misleading if you think it covers all Stations in the UK. It is confined to East Anglia and Lincolnshire.
Not as good as it makes out
Action Stations which was the Original series (from which this author is attempting to feed off), was first class and the original authors had done all the hard work.
This "new" book has missed airfields especially in Lincolnshire that the original Book 'Action Stations 2' had clearly listed. This is very poor research, I know of many who are not impressed with this author or the series of books which are clearly trying to imply a link to the original series and authors. I note that Bowyer did one or two books in the original series, but he was not the author of the most important ones which dealt with Bomber County. Lincolnshire and Yorkshire were well written and researched in the original series and if anything, readers would be better served, especially historians, if these original books were reprinted.
To the reader who has not had the good fortune of reading the Original series I can understand their enthusiasm, but to those that have we can see a poor copy and pale shadow of far better work.
The reader would be wiser in at least getting second hand copies of the original series.
Well set out
This book is a worthy successor to the original 11 volume 1970/80s series and covers the airfields in the same depth. The photographs are interesting and complement the text. This book is a must for any airfield historian... The book is subtitled "No1 Eastern England" so it is not a one off catch all volume. Full marks to the author for a great book...
