Customer Reviews
A brilliantly simple idea using cartoons to generate ideas.
Altough this book is mainly aimed at Key Stage 3+ children it can also be used successfully at Key Stage 2. It contains cartoon photocopy masters illustrating the different ideas that children usually hold on scientific subjects. The book covers just about every unit and topic in the science curriculum. At Key stage 2 I have used it to generate ideas outside of science topics; invariably with interesting results.
A thoroughly recommended book both for the science specialist and non specialist.
A useful tool to start discussions and engage students
I've used this book with students at KS3 and KS4, and it's worked particularly well with lower ability students, who are usually nervous about contributing to a discussion, just in case they get it wrong. The cartoons include a number of different opinions and explanations relating to various scientific principles. Some of the opinions expressed are correct, some are incorrect. It would never have occurred to me that a pupil might think of some of the ideas the cartoons illustrate. The cartoons give my students the basis for discussions and debates, and I often use the cartoons when summing up a module or sequence of lessons. I only gave the book 4 stars because a CD of the cartoons would have been great - I have to scan them in to use them with my IWB.
