Where to go mountain biking
Most guide books simply give selected routes and maps, this one is refreshingly different. It lists areas within the UK where there is good biking, tells you what the riding's like there, what maps you need and suggests routes in very broad terms. You then need to get the relevent maps out and plan a detailed route yourself. The downside of this is you need to competent in map reading but the plus side is the guide book covers the whole UK.
My only criticism is that the indexing could be better. You go to the map of England, Scotland, Wales or NI and then pick a number off the map and look up where exactly it is. What you can't do is if for example you know there's some mountain biking around Newbury, is to look up "Newbury" in the index.
It will need to updated every couple of years though as it also lists phone numbers for camp sites, cafes, bike shops etc, but obviously over time these will be become out of date. As it stands now though (Dec 2005) its fine.
On the whole though its well worth the money and gives you plenty of ideas about where to go.
