Lisbon is Europe's Rio, vibrant and exciting with an amazing Latin spirit. Known for its wonderful atmosphere, run down backstreet nightlife, approachable residents and manageable charm, Lisbon benefits from startlingly blue sky and almost constantly warm weather pretty much year-round. Lauded for its gastronomy - including unbelievably fresh seafood - and a diverse range of lesser-known, and therefore excellent value wines, Lisbon remains one of Europe's semi-hidden secrets. Discover a city of laid back charm where one can saunter through the ancient streets or party through until dawn.

Awesome Weekend Away
I came across this guide at the airport on the way to Lisbon - i wish i'd bought it before i'd booked my hotel - and it was amazing. Without it i would have been wandering around Lisbon like a headless chicken, instead we ate like kings and danced until dawn. What a truly amazing city and what a fabulous, well-designed guide.
great travel writing
i've always been dissapointed with the quality of travel guide writing. they assume they frequently fail due to pressure not to alienate audience groups, its editing by committee ~ so we're left with the lowest common denominator in terms of style and substance.
but not with this book. The author/s stamp their own identity on the book like louis vuitton luggage, but with more class. you get a real feel for the places and people they meet which just motivates you to go and share their experiences and find your own - surely what a good guide book should be doing.
anyhow. top guide. nuff said. i'm off to buy the rest of the series
A real taste of Lisbon
This is a fantastically useful guide book. For those who are bored of doing the typical tourist thing, this is perfect. The book describes the main districts of Lisbon and provides you with an easy way to get the most out of your stay in the city. Thanks to this book I crammed loads of fun things into my 4-day/3-night trip, including viewing art by the metro, eating dinner in a circus school restaurant, barhopping with the locals in Bairro Alto, finding the best spots for beautiful views over the city (the elevator and St George castle), relaxing on the beach at Cascais, watching some Fado music in Alfama, enjoying locally produced liquer and clubbing til the early hours. The book is really handy as it gives personal opinions, addresses & contact details and descriptions about the atmosphere, events, service & cost of all the places reviewed. The only criticism I have is that some of the photos do not fully show the true sense of awe and beauty you will get from being there in person - Lisbon is a must for any traveller and I am going back for more next summer!
