Certainly not the worst wrestling book ever written and I don't regret buying it. The book is written well and enjoyable, one of those two day reads. The problem I have with this book is that it suffers from a lack of depth and doesn't deliver half of the incites the author promises in the blurb. Also the book guarantees access to several other sections and in depth stories via the website but the section doesn't exist any longer which I felt a little conned by. This book would be best enjoyed by wrestling fans who followed the WCW in the late 80's and early 90's as the WWF section is very, very short and the only references that organisation afterwards are vindictive denouncemnets of everything McMahon because Vince didn't really afford Cappeta the time of day or give him a pay rise. At points the author seems to overstate the role of the ring announcer and words are wasted on the art of his craft when they could have been better used on stories from the road. Overall a roughly enjoyable read. AS I said I didn't regret buying it but I almost did.
Highly underrated wrestling autobiography
Excellent story that tells of the darker side of modern pro wrestling. The heavy travelling schedules, backstage politics and the many different wrestling personalities are explored brilliantly. The only downside I could find is that Cappetta doesn't tell nearly enough stories about the different wrestling personalities that he was travelling around the world with. Therefore, although many familiar wrestling names are mentioned, only a few have in depth stories written about them. Definitely a book for an "old school" fan, especially the fans of WWF in the 1980's and WCW in the early 1990's.
The best account of life on the road I've ever read!
I'm not going to give you excerpts from the book; read it for yourself. This to me is the single most excellent work on life as a part of a wrestling company ever. It's a frank and honest portrayal of how tough it has been for Gary over the last 21 years, and how he overcame the lunacies he'd encountered. In short this is the best wrestling book available anywhere! Buy it today; you'll be glad you did.
