At Last.!!
After an age of searching auction sites for the hellraiser comics which are as rare as gold-dust and just as expensive I can finally rejoice as Checker publishing has collected together twelve stories of the cenobites in one volume. Clive Barker himself acted as a consultant on this collection and the stories chosen span a wide variety both in terms of artwork and plot, expounding on the basic premise of opening the box and calling forth hell .The plot manages to steer away from the mindless carnage which soured the later films offering characters you actually care about when the hooks start flying.Contributors include Neil Gainmen, David McKean , Alex Ross and Mike Mignlola. The highlight of the collection is The Harrowing Parts one and Two .Plot supplied by Barker himself and artwork showing off the cenobites reconfigurations of the flesh in gory , lurid detail causing one of my friends to be both intrigued and disgusted. With plans afoot for reprints of barkers books of blood graphic novels the future looks good for fans of Barker.
Origins of the film
An excellent selection of graphic stories collected together. But beware- some of the animation is difficult to follow and the polemics of the text don't help much either in places. However, if you are a fan of Clive Barker then this is an essential edition to his work.
