Synopsis
The period since 2001 has been one of anxiety and uncertainty as the United States has attempted to come to terms with the implications of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the war in Iraq. This entirely new text, written by a team of leading authorities, assesses how well the American system of government and constitution has coped. It also considers the deep cultural and ideological divisions that have emerged in recent years within American society and the changing position and perceptions of America in the world outside.
Customer Reviews
Good reference book.
'Developments in American politics' is a good collection of essays from a variety of authors who share their knowledge and expertise on this fascinating subject. This is in it's 5th edition now and is still as applicable as when I first used it. This book is a great introduction to American Politics. I bought my copy when doing my A-levels and I still refer back to it now to clarify points, or just to dip into out of general interest. The style is easy to read and the explanations and essays are clear. It covers all the major topics you would wish to look at in your studies and is a great references book for anyone interested in politics. Well worth a look. I also recommend 'American Politics and Society' by David McKay which has similar information but presented in a more traditional textbook format.
a really good buy
great book, very detailed, written in quite an accessible way.
one negative might be that it is not as up to date as it could be, but still definitely worth buying, particulary for American Politics students.
