Not the best of the series
I brought this book to complete my collection of the 'Rapid...' series as the other books were very useful for quickly revising key diseases in the run-up to exams.
When I got the book, it wasn't was I was expecting - I had imagined that each symptom would get a page and then be explored in more detail. Unfortunately this book is simply a list of differentials under a heading. The main problem with this layout is that a) there is no index (so is fatigue under 'tiredness', 'fatigue', 'lethargy' etc.), b) some key symptoms appear to have been omitted (although they may be under a different heading..), and c) as a medical student, you need to understand why different differential diagnoses can or can't apply. In my mind, Differential Diagnosis by Rafferty and Lim does a much better job. The only use I can find for this book is when you might need rather bizarre, somewhat uncommon differentials when discussing a case presentation.
I would not recommend this book to medical students, but it may be of use to more senior medics who understand why a differential might be applicable but where they have forgotten it a long time ago.
A good idea but rarely use
I bought this at the beginning of my clinical placement when I was struggling to think of differentials for patients I'd clerked. To be honest there are lots better books to be lugging around on the wards and its not something I'd use when I'm at home studying.
