Review
Like Guinness World Records, this is the sort of book that either bores you to tears or holds you enthralled for hours on end, as you discover how much you didn't know about everything. And also like Guinness World Records it is hugely popular, especially at Christmas, when it is evidently the ideal solution to many a pressing gift conundrum. It's the same tried and tested formula of the previous 14 editions and it contains exactly what it says on the cover. It's emphatically not the sort of book that benefits from being sold from the shelf. It's a pile 'em high Christmas book, and with this in mind the publisher will supply booksellers with wire towers preloaded with 15 copies of this book plus The Top 10 of Film.

Lists of everything under and beyond the sun!
This book of fascinating lists is divided into the following chapters: The Universe and Earth (the galaxies, stars, continents of earth etc.), Life on Earth (all about animals), The Human World (about health, the body, etc.), Town and Country (info on the countries of the world), Culture and Learning (including fascinating information about languages), Stage and Screen (lists include DVD, video and movies), Commercial World (including websites, advertising, science an technology), Transport and Tourism, Sport and Leisure (including the Olympic Games.)
The Music section offers interesting sections on songs and songwriters, record firsts, stars of the decades, all-time greats, UK chart toppers, gold and platinum, music genres, broadcast music and movie music. The particular lists include Most successful songwriters on the UK charts (Lennon/McCartney followed by Stock, Aitken, Waterman), Rock songs of all time (Satisfaction, Respect and Stairway to Heaven to name the first three), Most popular UK bands through the decades (T. Rex and Wings tie for the 1970s, UB40 ruled in the 1980s and the Manic Street Preachers dominated the 1990s). The biggest singles of all time has Candle In The Wind at number one and biggest album honours is carried by The Beatles with St. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The top 3 artists that spent most weeks on the UK singles chart are Elvis, Cliff Richard and Elton John.
The book contains more than 700 lists and many short paragraph features elaborating upon important topics, like for example the first million selling record. The text is enhanced by colour pictures and the book concludes with a bibliography reflecting the aforementioned chapter headings and an index. The Top 10 Of Everything 2004 is a fact-filled and up-to-date reference work and also offers hours of fun for the casual reader, no matter what their hobbies and interests are.
