Crawford Logan and Gerda Stevenson star in this brand new eight-part recording of a lost archive Paul Temple serial. From 1938 to 1969 crime novelist and detective Paul Temple and his Fleet Street journalist wife Steve solved case after case in one of BBC radio's most popular serials. They inhabit a sophisticated, well-dressed world of chilled cocktails and fast cars, where the women are chic and the men wear cravats. And where Sir Graham Forbes of Scotland Yard always needs Paul's help with a tricky case. Returning from America by ocean liner, the Temples enjoy the company of their fellow passengers, only to find one of them dead the next morning - and when Paul and Steve get home to London, Sir Graham Forbes is waiting to plunge them into one of their most thrilling and dangerous adventures, the pursuit of a ruthless international gang of counterfeiters. As knives fly and bombs explode, the key to the puzzle seems to lie in a coin on the end of a watch-chain...This new production for BBC Radio 4 uses the original scripts, vintage sound effects and much of the original incidental music from a lost archive 1949 production. As far as possible, it is a technical and stylistic replica of how that production might have sounded had its recording survived.

Customer Reviews
A new recording...
Whilst Peter Cooke and Marjorie Westbury will always be the perfect Paul and Steve Temple, this new recording is actually VERY good! I quickly forgot that it was a modern recording - the voices / accents were excellent and the use of the old-fashioned sound effects made me feel I was listening to the original broadcast. Highly recommended for all Paul Temple fans :-)
Wonderful, but!
I'm sure that every Francis Durbridge fan will love this updated BBC series. It is very well performed indeed. I said in my potted review "but!". My only complaint is that although the CD case says "Stereo" it is not. This is a grave error, I'm amazed that the BBC did not record this in Stereo. If you are an absolute fanatic and wish to hear it in Mono, then move your selector switch to Mono. I also checked the other Durbridge serials and found that the following are all marked "A Stereo Recording", Margo Mystery, Lawrence Affair, Gilbert Case, Alex Affair, and the Sullivan Mystery. In fact all are Mono recordings. If the BBC issues any more full cast Francis Durbridge recordings, then please make them Stereo. I withheld 1 star for this error, so if your not too bothered then it is rated 5 stars.
A good one
While all the Paul Temple stories have certain features ie Scotland Yard baffled, Steve and Paul threatened by drowning, being burnt alive, run off the road, shot and the rest, they are still very engaging and are wonderful on a car journey. This is one of the best!
