Trusts and Equity, now in its ninth edition, provides a trusted account of the main principles of this area of law.  The book demystifies this complex subject, without oversimplifying the law, by means of clear explanations and contemporary applications.  It also considers recent proposals for reform so that the reader can gain an understanding of the development of the law.

This new edition has been fully updated and thoroughly revised to include:

  • A detailed account of the Charities Act 2006, including the Charity Commission guidance on its interpretation on matters such as public benefit
  • Chapter 12 dealing with the ownership of shared homes has been restructured and rewritten, particularly in the light of the House of Lords decision in Stack v Dowden and the Privy Council case of Abbott v Abbott
  • A more extensive explanation of equitable remedies, particularly injunctions, to reflect their contemporary importance
  • Chapters 13, 14 and 15 on the role, powers and duties of trustees have been reorganised and the structure improved to enable readers to more easily assimilate this important area of law
  • Several new additions of recent cases have been included and discussed

Straightforward and easy to read4
This is one of best textbooks on trusts and equity that I have found. Designed specifically for postgradute and first time law students, it is accessible and uncomplicated. The case law it includes is relevant and very up to date. Perhaps a little too uncritical with regards to cases, and any serious student will need to supplement it with casebooks and further reading, but it is an excellent book for anybody struggling to get to grips with trusts. It gives a good, basic background on any equity topic. If only all law textbooks were as readable as this!

It truly brings Trust law to life!5
It is an excellent textbook that de-mystifies and untangles the often confusing intricacies of Trust law. This is a must for the law student who finds this area of law confusing and frightening -I found it explains concepts clearly and concisely - see especially the chapters on Express and Resulting Trusts. It explains the Vandervell cases particularly well...

Not worth the money2
This book was putchased as part of a five bundle pack for law school. I found the certain topics such as tracing, proprietary remedies, trustee liability, and fiduciary respondsibility to have very limited coverage. Furthermore topics such as constructive trusts, resulting trusts, and proprietary estoppel were not adequately covered. I would have like to have seen more of a discussion regarding how they are similar and different. Finally I found the way the topic was presented to be quite boring and generally found the book could not hold my attention as a reader. I suspect this issue is based on the lack of detail that is provided by the author.

In my opinion this is a good book for an A-level course on trusts or someone wanting an introduction to the topic of trust without much detail. However if a potential purchaser is wanting detail regarding trusts or looking for a textbook for a university course on trusts I would strongly discourage them from purchasing this book.
