great starter4
I found this a a great book to get an overview of the possibilities within the field of qualitative analysis. Theoretical foundations are clearly layed out prior to starting with the more practical aspects of actually doing the analysis.Good choice for beginners!

Great introductory title5
This is an excellent book to read for any person conducting qualitative research or just reading up on what is involved in such research, it is clearly written, concise and easy to follow. For each of the qualitative methods that are discussed, relevant examples are given to clearly demonstrate the point that is being made.

The book contains an introduction by Smith, and then several chapters by different authors make up the main part of the book. The book covers areas such as the origins of the qualitative method in psychology, and also the separate qualitative methods used, including phenomenology, IPA, grounded theory, narrative, conversation analysis, discourse analysis, focus groups and cooperative inquiry, before finishing with a question of validity in qualitative research.

The different sections on each of the methods are great for those that are studying qualitative research, and the methods used are easily broken down and explained. Overall a very good book that got me through the qualitative psychology module on my undergraduate course.
