Synopsis
If you wanted a picture of the life of Elvis Presley, who better to paint it for you than someone who worked as his trusted cook and maid at Graceland? Someone whose daily tasks centered around keeping the 'King of Rock & Roll' happy, whose every move was designed to please the greatest music legend the entertainment world has ever known. Here is that picture, as painted by Nancy Rooks. Nancy worked for Elvis from 1967 until his untimely death in 1977. Read her stories of what those years were like, of what the routines were at Graceland, and what it meant to be close to Elvis and his family on a daily basis. Read the sad account of her rushing upstairs, after a frantic call from Ginger Alden, and finding him on the bathroom floor. This book presents that picture, one that every Elvis fan will want to see.
Customer Reviews
NANCY ROOKS . INSIDE GRACELAND.
I FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE A GREAT READ, IN FACT I READ COVER TO COVER IN ONE NIGHT,I HAVE SEEN MANY BOOKS FROM SO CALLED INSIDER'S TO ELVIS' LIFE BUT I THINK THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT, IN IT'S DETAIL, HUMOUR, RESPECT AND LOVE SHOWN FOR ELVIS , THIS BOOK HAS SOME FUNNY MOMENT'S, DID YOU KNOW THAT ELVIS ONCE SHOT THE TOILET IN HIS BATHROOM?...A NEW ONE ON ME ! IT ALSO TELLS IN GRAPHIC DETAIL ABOUT ELVIS LAST DAYS AND HIS SAD END , THE LAST TIME HE LEFT THE HOME HE LOVED AND HIS SECRET RETURN FOR A SAFE PLACE TO REST.I THOUGHT I NEW JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THERE WAS TO KNOW ABOUT ELVIS BUT I LEARNED JUST A BIT MORE FROM THIS BOOK. SO I RECOMEND TO ALL WHO LOVED ELVIS AND TO THOSE WHO THINK THEY DON'T.YOU MIGHT FEEL A LITTLE COMPASSION AFTER READING THIS SHORT BUT INTERESTING BOOK. JEF AARON .SEPT 27TH 2005.
Nice Book
Enjoyed the read. Although there are many many books written by staff members, this one is different you get the impression that Nancy Rooks is sat on your couch chatting away about her time at Graceland. I didn't think I would like this book but I did.
Not What I Expected !!
Nancy Rooks, housemaid to Elvis Presley in Graceland attempts to show what life was really like living with a Legend. I expected a story of drug-usage, womanizing balanced with a tender side that was evident to those closest to the man. This woman must have seen a lot during her time in Graceland but unfortunately you won't find it here. There is nothing in these pages that are revelationary or indeed have not been recounted numerous times before. Devoid of any great detail and amateurish in the writing, this book will take 3hrs at max to read. I have no doubt that Nancy's intentions are well-placed and that there in a story in there somewhere. Unfortunately, you will have to find it somewhere else.
