Synopsis
The Alpha Star Finder is a handy, portable guide to assist any astronomer in locating stars, constellations, planets and other celestial objects. It displays every star of magnitude 1 to 4 and a few of magnitude 5: all these stars are visible to the naked eye. Simply rotate the Star Finder's transparent disks to the date and time of observation to reveal the visible night sky. More experienced astronomers will be able to observe some Messier objects (such as M42) and a few (such as NGC 7000) from the New General Catalogue. The Alpha Star Finder also helps to identify double stars and variable stars. Not a book, but a sturdy card and plastic star map in a plastic sleeve The positions of the stars is valid until the year 2025. An accompanying leaflet tables the co-ordinates of the planets until 2005.
