Understanding the Amarna Period
My copy of this book is almost worn out as I have read it so many times. It is one of the most interesting books I have ever read with information about the Amarna period of Ancient Egypt. Bill Murnane has published the texts found which relate to life at Akhetaten (modern day Amarna.) Some relate to life before the city was built and some from life after, and are set out chronologically making it identify them.
To read these texts gives a real insight into the lives of the Pharaoh Akhenaten and his family. The texts were found on the walls of tombs, boudary stelae surrounding the city, on wine jars - wherever relevant words were found, they have been recorded.
This is an absolute must for anyone who wants to know more than is written in most books about Akhenaten or Nefertiti. It is essential reading for anyone invoved in serious study.
