Product Description

This new 2nd Edition provides revised and updated information on the latest pain procedures being performed in today's practices. The author's present a simple "how- to" approach for the various procedures discussed, ranging from soft tissue injections and casting to the newer peripheral nerve and spinal blocks used in pain management. This edition is much larger and more comprehensive than the 1st edition. The revised title is more indicative of the book's contents and appeals to a wider range of medical specialties dealing with pain management. Many chapters have been expanded and either include additional or new authors. New chapters contain more in-depth discussions of drugs, radiation safety, complications, medicolegal issues, botulinum toxin injections, and radiofrequency procedures. The section on myofascial pain and trigger point injection provides greater detail on injection procedures. New radiographic photos are featured in the expanded spine injection section. Gross specimen comparisons are now included in the section on peripheral nerve injection.

Customer Reviews

Excellent for spinal pain-relief injection techniques4
This is an excellent book for all those who use injectional techniques in the management of pain. It further improves the valuable contribution of the first edition and widens its scope. There are 32 chapters, all written by experts in their respective fields and with extensive bibliographies.
The book is subdivided into five main sections, the first being: Fundamentals of Pain Procedures. I found that the chapters on Complications of Common Selective Spinal injections: Prevention and Management, and the chapter on Radiation Safety for the Physician, of most interest.
The next section on Rehabilitation Procedures was perhaps of least interest with unusual topics for me and a book of this title, for instance Urologic Diagnostic Testing, and Serial Casting.
The next section of Peripheral Nerve Blocks was excellent with useful diagrams and photographs.
The section on Soft Tissue and Peripheral Joint Procedures ranged from intra-articular and soft tissue steroid injections but also included acupuncture, prolotherapy and the use of botulinum toxin.
The final section on Spine Procedures is by far the most outstanding covering everything from all the various types of epidural injections throughout the spine, as well as zygapophyseal joint injections, discography, sympahetic blockade, spinal cord stimulation and radiofrequency neurotomy.
In conclusion, this is an excellent book to read through, to work with, and to have as a reference.
