"Prime Chaos" continues the exposition of the fastest-growing school of modern occultism - Chaos Magic. The author presents simple, yet effective techniques for becoming proficient in practical magic, including an exhaustive breakdown of the possibilities offered by ritual magic, sorcery, invocation, possession and evocation. The resurgence of interest in magic has led to a new interest in magical groups, and Phil Hine brings a wealth of experience in groups to an exploration of the advantages - and disadvantages - of working magic with other people. "Prime Chaos" also explores some of the lighter - and darker - aspects of modern occultism, and presents new ideas for developing magical techniques for the 21st Century.

worth buying
From the forward by Grant Morrison to the last page this book oozes class, you just know this person does magick, real street level magick, not fluffy new age guff, this is the real deal. What I like about Hines work is the way he gives a view of magick that is about the real world and our interactions with it, yet his books still manage to retain that great feeling of weirdness. His conviction that magick is real and works gives the reader the confidence to try, his ideas that magick is about fun, not "work for works sake" gives the reader the inspiration to try, his ways of seeing the magick in the normal gives the reader a feeling of magick all around them and a magickal way of seeing the world without the need to become a sad occult stereo type.
In the four sections Phil takes his reader through how to approach magick, becoming a magickian, the dynamics of ritual, the effects of group work and how to form and run a group of your own (the book is worth buying for that alone) to Liber Nul and Liber Nasty, two ways of being.
The canine's orchidae!
We learn by distilling principles from repetition of techniques. Hine jumps straight to giving the principles, and allows imagination - guided by example - to lead the reader to develop his/her own personalized "arsenal" of applications.
Advanced principles in an advanced learning format, but still an easy read as the author's humour and enthusiasm becomes infectious.
Brilliant, but.......at THESE prices?
Phil Hine is one of my all time favourites.
Stripped of all the usual BS, and with a healthy dose of humour, his books are one of the very best ways to get into this type of Magic.
However, the prices I have just seen are beyond ridiculous.
Do these sellers actually sell any books?
Or are they hoping someone will unwittingly hit the 'Buy now with one click' button?
The cheapest price at the moment for this book on Amazon is 5p under £80.
This seems to be a puzzlingly common trait on Amazon.
Stupidly extortionate prices for modern paperbacks that can be bought on the high street at normal prices.
I went to Phil's website, and I'm sure I saw this as a free download.
The same price stupidity can be found on numerous books on this subject (And many others).
Try looking at Austin Osman Spare, Kenneth Grant, and others.
You WILL be disappointed.
