One of the best Batman novels I've read5
A good story that raises some interesting questions about the motivations of Batman and the villains he faces

Bruce Wayne let down by average artwork3
When Bruce Wayne uncovers illegal mind-control experiments being conducted at Wayne Enterprises he is framed and arrested as a communist spy, based on his travels in the middle-east when he was training to become Batman. As he attempts to clear his name we meet Henri Ducard and batman struggles to keep his secret from being discovered.

This is actually a good story by the man who wrote the movie 'Batman', with Bruce Wayne/Batman needing all his detective skills to get out of a potentially disasterous situation, although he probably should have realised sooner that someone called Dr Harbinger would turn out to be a harbinger of doom!

However, what spoiled it a bit for me was the distinctly average artwork. this was released a couple of years after 'Year One' and 'Dark Knight Returns' but the artwork looks 15 years behind that. It spoiled the feel of what should have been a very good comic book - especially as this was released to celebrate Batman's 50th anniversary.

This is worth reading, especially for the introduction of Henri Ducard, but I was left feeling very underwhelmed by what could have been an excellant graphic novel with just a little bit more effort.
