Synopsis
Although the pantheons of Europe and the British Isles sing to many of the hearts of modern Pagans, others find that the song that draws them is that of ancient, and often mysterious, deities of Egypt. It is for those that Circle of Iris was created. With very few exceptions, most information on these Gods and Goddesses is presented by those whom they are "other peoples gods" and therefore simply relate myths, and facts. Circle of Iris goes beyond a simple presentation of facts. Based on over 25 years of work with these deities, Circle of Iris begins by showing how Reed has come to know them, and how these Gods and Goddesses have enriched their lives. Included are mediations and techniques to help readers bring those deities into their own lives. Readers are given other tools to give depth to their practice, including songs for the deities, rituals, information of hieroglyphs, two new forms of divinations, names, incenses, oils, information and recipes for an ancient Egyptian feast, and even the best sites on the World Wide Web. Also included are instructions on the creation of a wand, nemyss, kilt, and sistrum.

"The Circle of Ellen C Reed"!
The Circle of Isis? Well what can I say? I think a better title would be "The Circle of Ellen C Reed"! This really is a "Warm fuzzy" hand book on her coven. I have no problem with that as long as it was made clear first, as I am not interested in how, or which way she and her members worship! I was looking for something unique and hopefully learn something new about the way the EGYPPTIANS performed their craft. Sadly this is NOT it! Ellen also seems to "shy" away from the darker side and even goes as far to try and push it into a brighter and happier view. When in fact it needs to be accepted for what it is, there is a real dark side to the Egyptian craft (as with all) that can't be avoided and needs to be examined and understood for what it is! Anyway, this is not intended to criticise Ellen personally, there is a place for her book. I just wanted to let those who are seeking for solid information about the real craft of ancient Egypt, not to think this is it! It is in short and personal worship manual for her coven and her idea's and interpretations about it. So if this is what you want then grab it, if not then check it out in a book store first before parting with your money like I did!!
A personal view
Reed makes it clear from the beginning and throughout the book that this is not magic based on that of Ancient Egypt. This is about Wicca, not Heka. That said, I follow the Egyptian path and this is the book I almost always turn to. Reed has devoted many years to her craft and has come to understand the Neteru (gods) on a personal level. It is heart-warming and encouraging to read her thoughts. There is also a bit of basic 'beginners' info in the glossary, index of deities and how to read hieroglyphs section.
In short, an excellent starting place for beginners and a good reference point for more experienced practioners, no matter what their path.
