A bit of a wet fish
I had read the first, the second was OK, so I thought this would also be a semi-decent book on modern witchcraft, that was the big mistake!
The first thing is the name "The Manual", well if that isn't setting yourself up as an authority what is?
The next is the content, or the lack of it. I had an unnerving sense of deja vu as I started to read, had I not read all of this before? Then the answer came to me, yes I had, whole sections (most noticable on the ogham) had been lifted from the first two and placed neatly in this one. This clever tactic for not having to write more new material is cleverly justified by the idea this book is complimentary to the first two, well it's not, it's a rehash of the first two.
The book is well padded out with the constant bombardment of the rede, rules of conduct etc, which I didn't appreciate as I follow a path of personal responsibility & an understanding of a boomerang effect, thus I am capable of making up my own mind about what I shall and shall not do. I don't need to consult a list of rules before every action.
The only new information is on palmistry, crystals & deity images, which to honest is the type of stuff you can get for free off of any basic pagan website.
I say, leave it on the shelf, the first two are better, and hopefully, if there is a next one, it might herald a return to a better form.
Designed as a companion to the other books
It's basically a study based on her other 2 books. You could use it on it's own but she refers to them a lot and in some places you would be a bit confused without them. There is a lot on the ogham and tarot which i didnt like but others might. She refers to the 5 Rules of the Power every chapter which gets annoying. They're basically her version of the Rede and tend to smack of "my way is right".
need book 1
hi! when i first jumped into wicca i got this book from my shop (i didn't do the research that i do know when thinking of buying books). I read this book when i got home and i found it confusin and not really goin into much detail as you have to refer to Green Witchcraft 1 alot! but, since i have bought the first book i have found them to work very well together!!!! The author is very good but a give it 3 stars coz you need the other book with it and she does sometimes say my way is the right way (not in so many words of course)
