Tales of the Vampires presents stories ranging from medieval times to the Depression to today, all intricately woven around Joss Whedon's central story about a group of young Watchers in training. Not to be missed is Buffy's rematch with Dracula and Angel's ongoing battle with his own demons. Wrapped in a haunting cover by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, these diverse tales flesh out the history and the world of Joss Whedon's unforgettable creations and fill the void left by the Buffy TV show better than any other writers ever could.

pretty good
as with it's companion volume, tales of the slayers, this is a mixed bag, some of the stories are a bit lacking, some of the artwork jars, each story has a strikingly different style and sometimes it seems like they're trying too hard to be different. but when it hits it really hits, as with the tv series' it manages to be sweet and poignant and laugh out loud funny, particularly towards the end.
so it's well worth a look, it's not perfect but it's got enough of the spark of buffy and angel to satisfy the cravings while you wait for the next installment of season 8...
The dark(er) side
Tales of the Vampires is more of a moody graphic novel than Tales of the Slayers or BTVS Season 8 and had a threatening undertone that works through the stories. Parts are quite suspensful and evoke that old fear of the bloodsuckers that all vampire stories should. But some of it is jovial in a wicked kinda way, that i suppose is typical of Joss Whedon.
There's also some really nice and different graphics in this one, some alot better than the Tales of the Slayer.
I'd recommend, as a Buffy fan, and as a fan of the Tales of the Slayers graphic novel and shorts. It's a good slice of something slightly different from some holier than thou slayerness.
