excellent introduction to yoga
this is a superb little book as an intro. Like all good yoga books it clearly states that you will need a good teacher to introduce you to the art of yoga and it does not offer over-simplified short cuts, that I ve seen in other books (often verging on the ridicolous and making a travesty of what is really an ancient and sophisticated practice) It does answer a lot of questions as to what on earth is yoga, its roots in its philosophical and physical form. True to its title, it is very simply and consicely written, with a very good explanation on the different 'forms' of yoga available in the west ie ashtanga, kundalini, phoenix rising, iyengar, viniyoga, bikram, kripalu, restorative etc. It gives some basic dietary advice and a simple begginers sequence. It is a good background book that would combine well with say, E Schiffmann's 'Moving into Stillness' which is possibly the most inspiring yoga book ever written. (One Still needs to find a teacher though if interested to practice yoga rather than just read about it)
