Dee's divinely inspired genius shines through this hermetic masterpiece. Like his other works, especially the Heptarchia Mystica, the Monas Hieroglyphica is the product of long and intense study and practice, and emerges from the rich soil of his personal piety. Dee is searching for the one God, pure and simple, and this glyph is his roadmap. There is no more powerful guide than John Dee, England's greatest Magus. To study his book patiently and with humility, is to drink from the same waters that nourished his soul and intellect, from Hermes Trismegistus to Agrippa and Paracelsus. It is to practice an ancient and true alchemy. This is not dancing round a fire in the woods or dressing up for a quick evocational spin round the temple. This is complex and obscure, in other words, hard work. And deliberately so, to put off those who like to play the magician. It is spiritual transformation for only the most determined. The work of years not hours. This is no how-to-get-what-you-want manual for weekend wiccans. It is ambitious, perhaps too ambitious, but then so was Dee. My advice would be to stop playing with fire, and buy this book. Visualise its glyph, powerfully and often. Study its correspondences. Dig deep into the world around it - the world of the renaissance magi - soak up their philosophical and theological mindset and make it yours. Then you will have begun at last, the first serious and irreversible steps towards contact with the Divine.
