Synopsis
"The Beatles! A One-Night Stand in the Heartland" adds a new chapter to the Beatles' story. In this book, Bill Carlson brings to Beatles fans, photography aficionados, and history buffs more than 100 never-before-published photographs that document one day in the life of the Beatles on tour.It brings together strands from several stories. First there is the story of John, Paul, George and Ringo themselves, who in 1965 were at the height of their popularity. Second, Carlson tells his own story of how he interacted with the Beatles that day. And third, Carlson's photos document the 25,000 or more screaming, shouting, cheering, swooning, clapping, crying, and singing fans who were transformed by what they experienced that day.

A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE...5
This is a coffee table style book that is a mélange of photographs, newspaper articles, and stories about the Beatles' concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 21, 1965. It is a true walk down memory lane for Beatle fans that lived through the Fab Four invasion of the sixties. The early Beatles were a phenomenon, and photographer, Bill Carlson, manages to capture the excitement that surrounded them where ever they went. It is an excitement that is palpable throughout the book.

Insouciant and fresh faced, the Beatles took Minneapolis by storm, as they eventually did the world, and the book chronicles just that one day that would never be forgotten by those who were there. Photographs of the early Beatles and their oh so young fans are a welcome trip down memory lane for Beatle devotees. This is a book that would make a wonderful gift for those who remember what those halcyon days were like.

Beatles Take Root in the Heartland & in Many Hearts5
This book made me feel as if I was at that August 21, 1965 concert in Minnesota! How lucky people who saw them were; how lucky for the people who actually greeted the Beatles when they first came to America on February 7, 1964!

Readers are treated to photographs that had previously not been seen by the public. One young girl with a large Ringo poster she had drawn adds a delightful touch of whimsy that speaks to that era. Close ups of each Beatle, especially an intense George will certainly catch the interest of readers. The delight these 4 moptopped boys evoked and the creativity of their fans in greeeting them, e.g. posters, banners and the like all speak to a rock era vastly different from the current one.

Articles accompany the text and photos; readers can laugh at some of the seemingly naieve view of reporters o that era. Imagine the gall of one reporter calling the Beatles "alleged" musicians. 1965 was a musically fertile one for the Beatles; they released several albums in that one year alone and had many sold out concerts as well.

I felt as I was taking a magical mystery tour (oops - that's a 1967 song) with the Fabs as they stormed the Heartland, taking root in the hearts of countless people. The Beatles in a manner of speaking ARE the Heartland of music - they will remain a vital part of culture; cultural influence and can be found at the heart of many discussions of music.

This is a book all Beatle fans will want to own. This book goes quite well with The Beatles In Cleveland: Memories, Facts & Photos About The Notorious 1964 & 1966 Concertswhich covers the Beatles' Cleveland concerts in 1964 and 1966.
